Day 191 — Life at Wickenburggasse; letters from Anjali
09-February-1972 (Mittwoch–Wed.)

TRANSCRIPT

Anjali collage 1971

Another busy day. This time [I] only spent 7-1/2 hours with El. Musik. The hardest part—yet to come—will be trying to combine these together into a piece.

After, practiced a little (terrible).

Got a really nice letter from Anjali. Made me feel good after all that work. Also got info from Fontainbleu. Hopefully, I might be able to go there this summer.

REFLECTIONS

Regular day. Same old.

My apartment on Wickenburggasse
Life at home. I spend most of my day at school. Normally, when I get home from school, horn practice, and electronic music, it is late. I may eat dinner at a school cafeteria or make something simple at home. I think I may have had a student meal pass to the University of Vienna’s cafeteria, however I don’t remember if this was for the entire year. In my room, I would study my languages and such. I would read books and write in my journal late at night. No phone, or cell phone (not invented). I didn’t have a TV. Can you imagine that? A year without TV? Perhaps that’s why I did a lot.

I wish I had a photo of my room at Wickenburggasse, but I don’t. The photo (above left) is my apartment building. You can search for Wickenburggasse on Google Earth.

Anjali lets her hair down
Letters from Anjali. Regardless of my day, whenever I received a letter from Anjali, it made my day. I would read the letters over and over. It really made me feel good. Remember, I know that I like her but our correspondence is innocent and probably more on the level of best friends. (I was stupid.) I would always write back shortly. It was great to write back and forth. Way better than INSTANT MESSAGING. I threw away almost all of those letters and now I wish I could read them and post bits of them in this journal. Was I funny? Corny? Goofy? Normal? Filled with teen angst? You know, we corresponded for years after Vienna, until she was married. Photo (right): Anjali lets her hair down. Opening photo is an Anjali collage.

And here’s Elisabeth.

Elisabeth collage 1971

Girlfriends. I think I needed a girlfriend. Why didn’t I meet anyone else in my small group of friends? Probably because the group was a small group of friends. I did write back to Elisabeth just a couple of days before. I liked Elisabeth as well but I think I was really drawn to Anjali. I was drawn to Elisabeth also. John!!

I wonder if my wife would let me have a girlfriend? (She doesn’t read this blog.) Happy

John
