Day
308 — Preparing Fantasy
05-Jun-1972
(Montag–Mon.)
TRANSCRIPT
Herr Gabler wants me to play a piece in the horn
class recital. I really don’t want to, being that I
make too many mistakes.
Doing a lot of electronic work—trying to correct the
piece before Wednesday’s concert. Hope it gets done.
Went out with English and Irish friends (by casual
meeting) and had a really great time talking. Too
late now, but I should have done it more in the year.
REFLECTIONS
Horn
class recital. There is
some action today. Prof. Gabler wants me to play in
the class recital. You’ve heard my complaining, about
mistakes, and I don’t want to do it. If I play, I
want it to be perfect, which it never is.
Preparing
Fantasy. We have an
electronic music concert coming up of the student
pieces. This will be my “world premiere” of
Fantasy
on Broken Glass, and as a
composer. Hmmm. I am working on the piece to finish
it. I really want write serious music again. Let’s
hope I can write when I retire in between my hours
working at the local Burger King.
Friendly
conversations. I was
right in 1972. I hardly went out for drinks, eating,
and casual conversations with my friends or other
students during the year. It sounded like a lot of
fun. You do need to socialize with people as a young
person. I regret not doing it more often. However, I
totally replaced this type of socializing with
friends with going to the opera and concerts with my
music friends. I will never regret that. Many
American exchange students seemed to have lots of
money to do things. I didn’t have that luxury and
worked off of the Rotary stipend. I did a lot and got
a lot of value from my devalued dollar. It was a
great year.
