A good day for horn and piano playing. A lot [of work]. Not so bad.

In the evening, an electronic music lecture by Prof. Kaufmann. Then a concert of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Very good. They played Tchaikovsky’s
Symphony No. 4.

END TRANSLATION

Good day. Horn, piano, and an electronic music lecture. I love it. I wish I could immerse myself in this much music, nowadays.

Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Although I don’t write about it, this concert was a good one. Founded by the legendary Sir Thomas Beecham, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is an accomplished and highly regarded orchestra. Today, the orchestra is under the reins of Daniele Gatti. They tour extensively.

Tchaikovsky’s 4th. One of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved and enjoyable works. If someone asks you to describe Tchaikovsky’s style, say long, flowing Romantic melodies, powerful chordal brass, lots of fast sequential scales in the strings and woodwinds, and on and on. If you are not a music lover, Tchaikovsky is a great way to start. The opening photo is of Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the San Francisco Orchestra in Symphony No. 4, Movement 4. See the YouTube video link below.

Pirates of the Carribean. Of interest, is that the RPO is popular in recording concerts with popular recording artists and for Hollywood soundtracks for films. For a great look at a behinds-the-scene peek at the music-recording process for the film Pirates of the Caribbean, take a look at the YouTube video below. Includes soundbites with Hans Zimmer.

Last day of German. I think today is the last day that I write German in my journal. Thank goodness. It’s probably not much fun reading it. I am just trying to be true to the journal.
