TRANSCRIPT
Practiced. Slightly better.
Relaxed, for a change.
Went to see “Manon”
by Massenet. Very pretty and enjoyable music.
Excellent singing. Very similar in story and musical
style to Puccini’s La
Boheme. Big difference here is
the ending—a loud, pompous forte. Boheme
is much more
effective.
REFLECTIONS
Enjoying
Manon.
Today, I
seem to be pushed into the brighter side of life by
the opera, Manon
by Jules
Massenet. My favorite comment ensues—enjoyable.
Massenet is not as well known as Pucinni, and we
don’t get to hear him that often, but he has written
a lot of operas, so check out the Widipedia article
below. There are some amazing vintage recordings
(1910, 1912), including Caruso, that you can listen
to. (The Internet never ceases to amaze.)
Be careful. I was impatient and clicked on the two
audio links before the audio-streaming started. The
resulting mash-up of two recordings playing at the
same time, was rather avant-garde and not Massenet.
