Day 109
— Jerry Lewis in German
19-November-1971
(Fri.)
TRANSCRIPT
Another full day; interesting. Electronic Musik.
Learning a lot about techniques. One girl, Fraulein
S. (good looking), produced a composition, using a
simple model—something good. There are an awful lot
of possibilities, but it’s still not easy to produce
something good.
First snow flurries of the year. Yea! Cold enough.
Saw my first Jerry Lewis movie,
Which way to the front?—1970. It was pretty
funny—couldn’t understand all the jokes. The dubbing
also takes out his funny-sounding voice.
REFLECTIONS
First
snow. I love the
first snow flurries of the year—always a thrill.
Electronic
Music. As we
learn techniques in class (splicing, modifying sound,
layering sound, filtering and much more), the class
is starting to write music. Techniques alone do not
make a composition and it is always difficult to
actually compose music.
Camilla was one of the students in our class, playing
her composition. Leave it to me to notice that she
was good looking, blond, and, in my imagination,
perhaps Scandinavian. Do Scandinavians know German?
Well, maybe she was Austrian.
Should
I write new avant-garde music? I enjoyed
all of these electronic music classes. When I get
time, I should try to write some serious avant-garde
music using today’s software tools. It might be fun.
Nowadays, I tend to write songs, pop, and commercial
music. While this blog is not about music (future
ones may be), I'm wondering if I should post some
music to add some zest to the site.
Jerry
Lewis in German. If you’re
young, you may not even know who Jerry Lewis is. He
is a very funny comedian who has made many comedic
movies. Often, his character was that of a wild,
goofy, and somewhat nerdy character with a very funny
voice. Originally, he teamed up with Dean Martin who
played the straight man in their duo. They were funny
together. Yes, I’m old; I watched his movies when I
was very young. More recent movies with Jerry Lewis
include the Nutty Professor movies. Laughing is good.
I need to do it more often.
Jerry Lewis is also quite the humanitarian, having
been the host of the Jerry Lewis charity telethons
for handicapped children for many, many years. This
alone will be an important part of his legacy.
